In an earlier post, I promised to answer the challenge of John Edwards' One Can Change America initiative, and make an effort to help others this holiday season by 1) donating food, 2) donating toys and 3) donating time. I've done two of the three so far. See the picture: The canned goods went to a food bank and the toys to the local ABC affiliate's toy drive.I wanted the girls of color who might be receiving donated toys for Christmas to have something that looked like them. First, I bought the black Barbie, but the feminist in me started to worry that she was dressed a little too much like a backup dancer in a Nelly video. So, I got a little Dora the Explorer, too.
This week, I'm going to look for a volunteer opportunity. Stay tuned.
