Old School Friday: "Baby"
When I heard that today's Old School Friday theme was "songs with the word 'baby' in the title," this track immediately sprung to mind. Tracy Chapman's "Tracy Chapman" release was a fixture in my Walkman, while hiking across university campus to class. (Yes, children, I said Walkman.) "Baby Can I Hold You Tonight?" was one of my favorites--a romantic break between songs about soured love affairs (Fast Car), domestic violence (Behind the Wall) and being the main squeeze of a felon (For My Lover).
I've always appreciated Chapman's compelling, narrative lyrics.
