I gave "Glee" the stick yesterday. Now, the carrot. I may hate the way that the show handles race, but I love that they hired the supremely talented Chris Colfer to play Kurt Hummel. Among the show's synthetic and forgettable voices, his emotive tenor stands out. But his voice would stand out no matter the competition, because it is unique and exquisite. I didn't think I could ever tear up to "I Want to Hold Your Hand." Turns out, when Colfer croons it, I can.
Here are my three favorite Colfer performances. They are the only "Glee" cast songs I've allowed in my music collection.
"I Want to Hold Your Hand"
"As if We Never Said Goodbye"
"Get Happy"/"Happy Days Are Here Again"
I'm not a fan of Lea Michele's voice, but I like it here. And I love this mash-up of the "Glee" performance" with the Barbara and Judy original. It's interesting how Barbara Streisand and Judy Garland make singing look so effortless.
