So, I'm kind of obsessed with style right now--particularly stylish natural sistahs. I want to be, like, every woman on Le Coil. I thought--for as long as my obsession lasts--I might introduce a new regular feature at What Tami Said. In Friday Style, I'll share some of the looks that have caught my eye over the past week. This is kind of a departure from the usual race, feminism and politics, but this week, after writing a bunch of heavy stuff, I wanted to focus on something fun.
It took me a while to warm to the look, but I really dig the afro punk style of the faux hawk. I rocked one myself a few months back, but I'm a little nervous that I don't have the swag to pull it off. I feel like if you're wearing a cool, semi-dramatic hairstyle you need to have cool, semi-dramatic clothing. Y'know, go big or go home. The day I tried this style, I think my clothes were too corporate for my hawk. I don't know...I may try it again--sport it with some hoops and my "Black Nerds Unite" t-shirt. . Just in case, I've filed away some videos that demonstrate just how to get a tight hawk going.
KiffeCoco is gorgeous and I like her method for dealing with long hair in the front: Pompadour! Why didn't I think of that?
