You made yesterday's My Planned Parenthood blog carnival a success.
I owe a ginormous thank you to Melissa at Shakesville, my blog carnival co-host. If you're smart, you're already a regular reader of Melissa's blog and you know that she has been tireless about shedding light on the war against women and reproductive justice. She is simply an amazing activist and writer and one of the people in the blogosphere that I respect the most. Yesterday flat out wouldn't have been as successful without her and the Shaker family.
Everyone who shared a personal story--you're amazing. You have my gratitude. Though, I have to admit, my "thank you" is partly selfish. Yes, I think personal stories can change the way opponents of Planned Parenthood think about the organization. I am grateful for that. But I am also grateful, because you made me smarter. I've always believed that PP plays a vital role in providing reproductive healthcare and sex education. But I'm not sure I understood how vital until I read all of your stories.
I hope that you will join me in doing everything possible to support and protect Planned Parenthood. Donate if you can (They have this deal where you can give as little as $5/month.). Volunteer if you can. Write your congressperson. Simply continuing to tell your story can help combat lies and distortions. I know--now more than ever--that this is a resource that women and men simply cannot stand to lose.
